Temple Israel in Kinston, North Carolina, is a Reform Jewish synagogue in rural eastern NC. While once a vibrant Southern Jewish community, only a few members remain. Nevertheless, we are a warm and welcoming group and encourage visitors to join us for our monthly lay-lead Shabbat services, High Holy Day services, and other holiday programs. All are welcome to join us for these programs and services.
We usually have services on the second Shabbat evening of every month at 6:30 pm. Please note that this is subject to change to accommodate holidays and special services. Please consult the schedule of services below.
If you are interested in receiving our monthly News email, please email us at synagoguekinstonnc@gmail.com.
Upcoming Services and Events in 2024
We have 2 gatherings each month: one for Shabbat services and another we call "Shabbat Social", which can be anything from holiday celebrations to talks presented by community members. Services and gatherings at Temple Israel are free and open to members and non-members.
We will also have a Google Meet link for those who would like to tune in remotely. See old friends! Sing along as if no one is listening (because they won't be if you are on mute)! Please send a request for the link to synagoguekinstonnc@gmail.com.
Saturday, July 27 at 10:30 am -- Shabbat Social. We will have a showing of the 1979 comedy classic, “Frisco Kid,” starring Gene Wilder and Harrison Ford. In this flick, Wilder plays a newly-ordained overly-trusting rabbi from Poland who travels to the United States to lead a Jewish congregation in San Francisco. When he arrives in Philadelphia, he loses his money to con men and then must work his way across the country. On the way, he is befriended by a bank robber (Harrison Ford), and they have many (mis)adventures, including being captured by Native Americans.
Bring your favorite beverage; popcorn will be provided!
[rated PG, running time 2 hours]
